Kop van Zuid

Until the mid-1990s Kop van Zuid was a disused port; today it is one of Rotterdam's most striking neighbourhoods and effectively an extension of the centre across the river. The Erasmus Bridge, the city's beloved 'Swan', links it to the heart of the city, and the Wilhelminapier is lined with landmark buildings by architects including Renzo Piano, Norman Foster, Alvaro Siza and Rotterdam's own Rem Koolhaas. Luxury residential towers such as Montevideo, New Orleans and De Rotterdam offer some of the best skyline and river views in the country. With around 7,600 residents, the area skews towards highly educated, high-income, dual-income households, many of them expats drawn by the international character and central location. Culture is woven through daily life: the Nederlands Fotomuseum, the LantarenVenster cinema and jazz stage, the Foodhallen and the historic Luxor Theater all sit within walking distance. Furnished apartments command premium rents, and the neighbourhood is among the most desirable in the city for international professionals.
