Suginami

Suginami is where Tokyo exhales. A green, residential ward strung along the Chuo Line just west of Shinjuku, it is best known through its lively local centers, Koenji with its vintage-clothing stores and underground live houses, Asagaya with one of the city's longest covered arcades, and Ogikubo with its storied ramen street. Beyond the shotengai, Suginami is quietly domestic: tree-lined streets of low-rise apartments and family homes, riverside parks along the Zenpukuji, and a notable concentration of anime studios that earned it the title of Japan's animation capital, complete with a dedicated museum. For investors and end-buyers, Suginami offers character and a strong family-rental base at a clear discount to the central wards, with the trade-off that its owner-occupier orientation and older low-rise stock keep yields moderate rather than spectacular.
